About Folklore Mexicano
Biographies:
Gabriela:
Gabriela Carbone was born in Guadalajara Mexico. Her first
performance was at age seven marking the beginning of her
inspiration and passion towards Mexican folk dance. Her father,
Lazaro Figueroa Vera who liked to travel through Mexico, nurtured
her knowledge of Mexican culture and traditions interacting with the
people from different areas of Mexico. Gabriela represented her
home town in several state and regional competitions winning
awards. Through this, a scout from the municipal government
inducted her into the ballet Folklorico Poncehui, a government
endorsed group that traveled regionally, Gabriela danced with that
group until 18 and years later moved to the US. Gabriela travels
twice a year to Mexico to continue researching Mexican dance.
